Welcome to the home page of Treegeneration.

Background

Treegeneration is an urban forestry project set up to help improve urban areas in Wales by providing advice and support, including funding, for urban tree planting. The project was first established in 2003, when representatives from the Forestry Commission Wales approached a number of organisations in the north east Wales region to create a partnership. In 2004 a project officer was employed to further develop the project and co-ordinate the delivery of urban tree-planting schemes.

The pilot phase

The project is currently in a pilot phase within the counties of Wrexham and Flintshire in north east Wales. This means that, regrettably, we currently cannot support projects outside these areas. If additional funding is secured, we hope to operate across Wales.

The aim of the pilot phase is to illustrate Treegeneration's potential to positively contribute to urban regeneration and sustainable development across Wales. The majority of projects delivered during the pilot phase will therefore be exemplar projects that help to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits over a range of urban settings.

What is Urban Forestry?

Urban forestry involves the planning, planting and management of trees in an urban area. An urban forest consists of all the trees in a town or city, including trees in private gardens, public parks, woodlands, roadside verges and any other pieces of land regardless of how big or small. Urban forestry involves a wide variety of organisations including government agencies, local authorities, private businesses, environmental and community groups.

Without urban forestry, towns would look and feel very different. The urban forest brings life to towns and helps to break up the uniform structure of built up areas which, amongst other things, can help to promote a better sense of wellbeing. Urban forestry therefore helps to sustain and enhance quality of life in urban areas. For more information on the ways in which urban forests enrich our lives, click here
